Car Insurance Porsche (Car Insurance). What would you do? Repair the car or buy a replacement vehicle?

What would you do? Repair the car or buy a replacement vehicle? One mechanic says he suspects my '94 Toyota has a bad head gasket. He says that repair will cost $2,000 (but he could be inflating that price). I have owned the car for only a few months. I bought it cheap but I'm a student and this repair cost will be very hard on me. I can't afford to buy anything but another super-cheap car to replace this one and I'm afraid I'll just buy something else with huge problems. So am I better off staying with this devil car I know, or getting a replacement, potentially devil car. Thanks

If your a student and you live on campus or even just close to campus I would recomend getting a bike instead. A good 21 speed bike would only cost you somewhere between 150 and 200. Also no more gas cost on you. This is a tough decision: I had a 94 Toyota Corolla and it was a great car until the the timing belt tensioner MOUNT broke off. The part that broke, is part of the engine block! Not Repairable. I dont work on smaller cars like your toyota as I work on heavy haul equipment. so I cant say what the acutal cost of repairs will be. seems a little high to me...first thing I would do is to get a couple more quotes for repair....then.....I would consider the true value of your car after repairs...vs.....cost of a replacement ride.....then decide where your money would be best spent! a blowen head gasket tells me that it has been ran hot @ some point in time so I have to wonder what other problems you will find after you have repairs done that you cant afford.....think I would consider dumping it or....maybe even switching motors....in japan they are required to remove the motors after about 30,000 miles and these motors are shipped here and sold for very little...maybe it might be cheaper to swap motors then to repair yours......I have bought them for as little as $300 to $500. Before for my own projects. go to another mechanic! any mechanic can do a pressure test to see if it is actually a bad head gasket. they don't need to guess at that. also that price is crazy high for replacing one. what is wrong with your car? what is it doing, or not doing?

Porsche . The more armed I am, and how more I'm provided for safety...?

The more armed I am, and how more I'm provided for safety...? How more I am armed, the more I get provided with safety things, I get more scared of things. Not that I mean I get scared, the feeling just get's bigger. I can't remember the last time I was scared of anything, but that is out of question. My point is, who has this too? The more armed you are (Like as in guns, weaponsticks, etc.) and the more safety you get provided of (Extra locks, extra attachments to the costume you wear, like if you go skydiving or bungeejumping) the more afraid I get something might go wrong. Is it just me, or are there more of this kind? I live in Europe, were it is illegal to have guns, thank god. I would not know what to do with the American Gun Addiction. Everybody a gun, only the idea sounds stupid already. So I do not have any weapons. If there is a burglar in my house I'll take it down with something hard in my room. Like a stick or big thing of wood. But how you think 'bout it? car insurance.

Porsche . How to Fix the Thermostat on a 2003 Ford Focus 2.3

The thermostat in a water-cooled engine controls the temperature of the coolant. The thermostat stays closed when the engine is cool to restrict the flow of coolant. This allows the engine to warm up quicker. Once the engine reaches operating temperature, the thermostat opens up, allowing the coolant to flow freely through the engine passages. The 2003 Ford Focus was in its fourth year since its 2000 introduction and was available with a slightly larger 2.3 liter engine as an option over the 2.0 liter engine. A malfunctioning thermostat in your Focus can cause the engine to overheat.
Difficulty:Moderate
Instructions Things You'll Need
Drain pan
Adjustable wrench
13-mm wrench
10-mm wrench
Pliers
Torx screwdriver
Replacement thermostat

Step by Step :
1
Open the hood and allow the engine in your Focus to cool so that you will not be scalded by hot coolant. Place a drain pan under the radiator drain valve. Loosen the valve without removing it with an adjustable wrench in a counterclockwise direction. Close the valve once the coolant has finished draining.
2
Locate the coil pack wiring harness on the driver's side of the engine to the right of the valve cover. Press in on the release tab on the underside of the plug and pull it apart. Remove the brackets from the EGR hose in the same location with a 13-mm and a 10-mm wrench. Push the plug and the hose aside to gain access the thermostat housing.
3
Pinch together the tabs on the upper hose clamp on the thermostat housing with a pair of pliers. Slide the clamp off of the hose. Pull the hose from the housing with a twisting motion. Rotate the housing to reveal the remaining two hose attachment points and remove these hoses in the same fashion. Remove the thermostat housing from the engine bay.
4
Remove the thermostat retainer from the housing by twisting out the retaining screws with a torx screwdriver. Remove the thermostat from the housing and insert a new one into the housing using the same orientation. Replace the thermostat retainer and tighten the torx screws.
5
Position the thermostat back into the engine bay and connect the three hoses removed earlier by sliding the hose clamps back into their original position. Replace the EGR valve brackets and tighten the retaining bolts. Plug the coil pack wiring harness back together until it is fully seated.
6
Remove the coolant filler cap on top of the engine and place a funnel in the opening. Pour the coolant from the drain pan into the funnel. Remove the funnel and replace the cap. Start the engine and allow it to reach operating temperature. Check for leaks.

Porsche . How to Disconnect a Coil Pack on a 2001 Ford F150

How you disconnecting and remove an ignition coil from a Ford F150 engine depends entirely on the engine type. Some models will have a coil pack that contains all the coils and uses spark plug wires, while others have individual coil packs for each spark plug. There can be a number of reasons why you would need to remove a coil, but if the engine uses separate packs, you must remove a coil pack if you need to change a spark plug.
Difficulty:Challenging
Instructions Single Coil Pack

Step by Step :
1
Loosen the cable clamp nut on the F150's black (negative) battery cable with a wrench and disconnect the cable, making sure it won't accidentally contact the terminal while removed.
2
Unplug the electrical connectors for each individual ignition coil. Label or tag each connector with tape so you know which one connects to which coil.
3
Squeeze the tabs that lock the spark plug wire in place on the ignition coil and then twist and pull off the boot to disconnect each wire. Tag each wire to note which connects to each coil.
4
Remove the mounting bolts for the ignition coil using your wrench and remove the coil pack from its mounting bracket.
Individual Coil Packs

Step by Step :
1
Disconnect the battery cable and the ignition coil electrical connectors as described in the previous section.
2
Using your wrench, remove the single bolt mounting the ignition coil.
3
Lift the ignition coil off the cylinder head.

check the octane rating of the fuel you're using. The owner's manual can tell you whether your vehicle needs regular unleaded or premium gasoline. Check the cooling system (see Chapter 14). Do a compression check on the engine cylinders (see the section "Checking the Compression in Your Cylinders" in Chapter 13). Jumping, a start If your battery has died, you may be able to use jumper cables to jump a start from some Good Samaritan's car — with one important exception. If either vehicle has an electronic ignition system, the use of jumper cables may damage it. If your vehicle is one that may be damaged in this way, you may find a warning to that effect in the owner's manual or on a decal under the hood. Even if you don't find a warning, it pays to be sure, so call the service department at your dealership and ask about your vehicle's make, model, and year. If you can safely use jumper cables on your vehicle, make sure that the battery on the Good Samaritan's vehicle has at least as much voltage as your own. It doesn't matter whether your car has negative ground and the GS's car has positive ground, or your car has an alternator and the GS's car has a generator, as long as you hook up the cables properly (and the proper way is the same in every case).

Porsche . How do you start a repo company?

To safely jump a start, follow these steps: Part IV: Dealing with On-the-Road Emergencies. 1. Take out your jumper cables. It's a good idea to buy a set of jumper cables (see Chapter 2) and keep them in the trunk compartment. If you don't have jumper cables, you'll have to find a Good Samaritan who not only is willing to assist you but has jumper cables as well. 2. Place both cars in Park or Neutral, with their ignitions shut off and their emergency brakes on. 3. Remove the caps from both batteries (unless they're sealed).

Batteries produce explosive hydrogen gas, and a spark could set it off. If the caps are open, you can avoid such an explosion. (Sealed batteries have safety valves.) 4. Connect the cables. The positive cable has red clips at either end, and the negative cable has black clips. It's important to attach them in the proper order: 1. First, attach one of the red clips to the positive terminal of your bat tery (it has "POS" or "+" on it, or it's bigger than the negative terminal). 2. Attach the other red clip to the positive terminal of the GS's car.

Attach the last black clip to an unpainted metal surface on your car that tsnYnear the carburetor (if your car has one) or battery. Figure 21-3 shows how both the positive and negative cables should be connected. 5. Try to start your vehicle. If it won't start, make sure that the cables are properly connected and have the GS run his or her engine for five minutes. Then try to start your car again. If it still won't start, your battery may be beyond help.
